PRCM Forum: signature of the Resilao project for the protection of the West African coastal regions

On 28 March 2022, in a side event at the 10th edition of the Regional Coast and Marine Forum, the FFEM signed a financing agreement with the Regional Partnership for the Conservation of the Coastal and Marine Areas (PRCM), the Forum organiser. This signature marks the start of the RESILAO project, which seeks to develop innovative local initiatives for the West African coastal regions.

This edition is dedicated to "The health of the oceans, a challenge for the sustainable development of West African coastal countries." The FFEM is an event partner and its projects will be showcased in a number of side events.

World Water Forum: the WaSAf project publishes its guide to freshwater ecosystems

The 9th World Water Forum has just opened in Dakar, in Senegal. The international water and water treatment community will be gathered there until 26 March. It’s an opportunity for the French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM), the Agence française de développement (AFD) and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) to share the results of the WaSAf research programme.

Today, forestry management faces multiple challenges in terms of adapting to climate change, biodiversity preservation and sustainable forestry exploitation. If the development plan is the primary answer for sustainable management of the forests, the countries of Central Africa face a major challenge: renewal of stocks of the species exploited. For Jean-Louis Doucet, Professor at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech and Sylvie Gourlet-Fleury, researcher at Cirad, reinforcing the sustainability of exploitation as part of forestry development is essential. On World Forest Day, they tell us about their work as part of the DynAfFor and P3FAC projects, supported by the FFEM, and their resulting recommendations for better management of the Central African forests.
